I see myself as a professional in the field of early childhood education for multiple reasons. I show respect to respect to children, parents, families, and colleagues, which demonstrates my professionalism in the field. I do this by always being open to listen to other peoples’ point of views. I value other sources of knowledge, respect diversity, and I accept that I don’t always know everything. I use the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct as a guide to stay on track in my career when I have doubts or concerns over situations I encounter. Overall I believe that being a professional means that I continue to learn new things everyday by reading other critical perspectives so I can be a knowledgeable source for parents and colleagues. I advocate for young children and families by being the support person that speaks on their behalf to make sure that they are being respected and their voices are being heard.

Advocacy Letter
I am including a letter I wrote to the mayor of the city of Chicago Rahm Emanuel, explaining my concerns about children and heat strokes in vehicles. This is a topic that raises many concerns, as I have witnesses this in many occasions, as well as it is statistically proven. With this letter I am asking for mayor Rahm Emanuel, to provide more security to those children that are left being left behind in vehicles, as this is a form of neglect. This letter serves as evidence of my understanding for NAEYC Standard number 6, as it demonstrates that I am engaged in advocacy for young children and the early childhood profession. For as long as I live, I will continue to advocate for young children who are not always taking into consideration or heard because they are “little” as many state. I will the voice for those families who don’t have the courage to speak up for themselves, and the change that my community hopes to see.
