Biography
My name is Berenice Lopez and I am 22 years old. I was born in Mexico City, but moved to the United States at the age of 7. I currently live in the city of Chicago with my mother, my two sisters, my brother in law, and my adorable niece.
I will like to start off by sharing a brief story about the experiences that gave life to the love I have for the field of childhood education. Every school year on the first day of class I had this great excitement to meet my new teacher, especially when a new school year happened to be taught by an awesome teacher. From that day to this I can say that I remember my favorite school year, thanks to the memorable experiences and bond that my teacher and I created with one another. My favorite teacher was a charming, lovable, and equally caring for all the students in the classroom. If my classmates or I had a question she always took the time to explain until we had a clear understanding of what she taught. She really made the students feel as important individuals and part of the classroom family.
As soon as I was able to work, I began working a part-time job in a childcare center. From here it was when the love I have for children today blossomed. I absolutely loved my job; it was strange because it didn’t appear to me like it was an actual job. Kids my age would typically join extra curricular activities afterschool, but my situation was different, I hung out with the little ones at the center. I clearly remember being so amazed at the capability the children had in learning new things. I had always thought of children as “children” and believed that because they were small, didn’t know any better. I came to find out the opposite, and that created so many emotions inside of me.
I can confidently say that this is no longer a job, but a career that I have chosen for myself. I believe it takes passion and dedication to genuinely work with young children and families. Overall, my ultimate goal is to be a positive influence in the life of young children, teaching them important life skills that they can carry on through life.
