I know that building family and community relationships is fundamental in the guidance I want to offer to young children in my classroom. I support and understand the importance of inclusion with diverse families and community characteristics. I do this by acknowledging and accepting that each and every family is unique, and by having the equal respect in the relationships I create with all families and the community. I involve families and the community in young children developmental learning by maintaining reciprocal relationships and an open communication. Furthermore, I believe in being sympathetic to the situations families are encountering, and believe in being flexible and providing opportunities for children and their families to share together.
Artifact
I am including a parent newsletter I wrote to show the families of the children in my practicum. This letter demonstrates my understanding of standard 2 of building family and community relationships. This newsletter also serves as a broad example of the multiple sources I plan to use with parents in my classroom to maintain relationships with the highlight of cultivating a good communication. Through numerous sources of communication this will help to maintain reciprocal relationship with families by providing flexibility and support to all.

Community Needs Assessment Paper
I am also including a community assessment paper I created in Child Development 262 discussing the neighborhood of South Chicago. In this paper I mention a brief piece of the history of the community, what makes up South Chicago, and how the community could be improved with extra services provided.
